TL;DR

  • Only 2 of 50 tools were described correctly by all three AI models.
  • Models recommended just 7 tools across 24 buyer answers; Profound appeared most often, in 21.
  • GEO platform entry prices ranged from $9 to $800 per month, with a $79 median.
  • Microsoft Clarity offers free AI citation and referral tracking, but its data relies on Bing grounding.
  • Check mentions separately from citations: AI can name a brand without citing its website.

What is a GEO platform?

A GEO platform is software that runs a set of buyer questions, or prompts, through AI assistants on a schedule and reports whether and how a brand is mentioned, which sources are cited, and how competitors compare; many also suggest or generate content fixes.

Pricing pages usually describe four basic units. Prompts tracked are the questions monitored. AI models covered are the assistants used to answer them. Tracking frequency says how often those questions run. And mentions versus cited sources are separate measures: an assistant can name a brand without citing its website, or cite the website without naming the brand.

The category label needs a little care. Of the 68 domains Crownded tracks in this market, 49 present themselves on their own homepage as dedicated AI visibility or GEO platforms. Six are SEO or content suites that added an AI visibility module; the other 13 are agencies, directories or tools with another purpose. So “GEO platform” describes how 49 domains position themselves, not every tool that might appear in an AI visibility comparison.

When should a company start using a GEO platform?

Start using a GEO platform once your team knows which buyer questions matter and has checked a few by hand: a platform automates measurement, but it does not decide what to measure.

A platform becomes useful when buyers regularly ask AI assistants about your category, competitors show up in those answers, and your team is ready to change content based on what it finds. If you are still deciding which questions matter, begin with a manual baseline:

  1. Write down 10 buyer questions.
  2. Run each question in three AI assistants.
  3. Record brand mentions separately from citations to your site.

That split gives you a reference point for comparing platform results. A brand can be named without its website being cited, so tracking only one signal can miss part of the picture.

Expect progress to take time. A platform can show how visibility changes over weeks and months, not days. Use the results to guide content changes, then give those changes time to register in later measurements. For more on the process, see Crownded’s GEO for established brands guide.

How much does a GEO platform cost?

The median entry price was $79 per month, with listed entry prices ranging from $9 to $800, across 49 dedicated GEO platforms checked on 9 October 2026. Of the 44 platforms showing a self-serve entry price, 32 were under $100 per month, 8 were $100 to $299, and 4 were $300 or more. Nine platforms offered a free plan, while 3 showed no public price for brands.

The price often depends on how much you track: the number of prompts, AI models and brands or client workspaces, plus how frequently prompts run. Content generation and API access can also add to the cost. Check which limits apply to the plan you need, not just its entry price.

Prices may appear in dollars or euros depending on the vendor and your location. Some pricing pages show a monthly equivalent for an annual plan, so compare monthly plans with monthly plans, and annual commitments with annual commitments.

Is there a free GEO platform? What Microsoft Clarity's AI Visibility does

Yes, Microsoft Clarity, a free analytics tool, now includes an AI Visibility section, and 9 of the 49 GEO platforms we checked offer a free plan.

Clarity has no traffic limits. Its Citations dashboard reports page citations, your share of all citations (share of authority), AI referral traffic, grounding queries AI systems used to retrieve your pages, and which pages were cited. The citation data comes from Microsoft grounding through Bing, which powers Microsoft AI experiences and partner AI platforms that rely on Bing. You may need to verify domain ownership by connecting Bing Webmaster Tools or Google Search Console. Microsoft’s Clarity FAQ on AI Visibility explains the feature.

Clarity also shows which AI crawlers request your pages through Bot Activity. That requires connecting a CDN such as Cloudflare, Fastly or Amazon CloudFront, which may bring CDN costs. Topic Insights lets you track 10 to 15 prompts per topic and compare your results with competitors, with a limit of 10 reports per week per project.

The trade-off is coverage: Clarity’s citation data is based on Bing grounding, not a direct test of every AI assistant.

In our test, run on 9 October 2026, we asked GPT-6 Luna, Claude Sonnet 5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite what each of 50 tools does, with no web search and one run per question. All three described Clarity as a heatmap and session recording tool, without mentioning AI Visibility. None named it when asked whether a free tool exists to monitor brand visibility in AI answers. Yet Clarity was one of only two tools the three models described correctly across all three answers.

How to choose a GEO platform and what to expect from it

Choose a GEO platform based on what it measures and how, starting with the buyer questions your team needs answered. Model recognition is a poor proxy for whether a platform fits your measurement needs.

Check:

  • Which AI assistants and countries it covers.
  • Whether you can track your own prompts or only choose from suggested prompts.
  • Whether it reports brand mentions and cited sources separately.
  • How often it re-runs prompts, and whether it samples answers more than once. AI answers vary between runs.
  • Whether you can compare competitors using the same prompts.
  • Whether it offers exports or API access.
  • What sets the price: prompts, credits, models or brands.

A visibility score is directional, not a precise measure of market share. A mention is not a visit, so check referral traffic separately if you need to understand site impact. Treat changes as trends to assess over weeks, not as proof that one content update caused a result.

GEO platforms measure what AI assistants say once content exists, while Crownded works upstream, mapping which topics are open, contested or already owned in a market and which sources AI Overviews and LLMs cite on them, before a team writes. For context on why rankings alone are incomplete, see why AI citation rankings can't tell the whole story.

What AI models know about 50 GEO tools

Across three AI models, only 2 of the 50 tools were described correctly by all three, and only 7 of the 50 were recommended at least once in 24 buyer answers. We asked GPT-6 Luna, Claude Sonnet 5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite what each of 50 tools did, then asked each model 8 buyer questions, including which GEO platforms to consider for different business needs. We ran the test without web search, once per question, on 9 October 2026.

GPT-6 Luna described 26 of the 49 GEO platforms correctly in the 50-tool test, compared with 12 for Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite and 6 for Claude Sonnet 5. Claude said it did not know 42 of the 49 GEO platforms and never attributed another business to one. Gemini did not say it was unsure about any of the 50 tools, but described 30 of the 49 GEO platforms as other kinds of businesses. For example, it called Peec AI a video analytics tool for creators and Evertune a pitch correction tool for musicians.

Two of the three models read GeoVector as geography and described it as a geospatial analytics tool. All three knew SurgeGraph, but described it using its older AI SEO writing positioning rather than the AI visibility positioning it presents on its homepage today.

Across the 24 buyer answers from the three models, the 7 tools recommended were Profound, in 21 answers; Peec AI, in 16; Otterly.AI, in 15; Scrunch, in 10; AthenaHQ, in 4; Goodie, in 3; and Rankscale, in 2. The other 43 of the 50 tools did not appear. Gemini recommended Peec AI in 4 of its buyer answers and Otterly.AI in 2, despite describing both as different businesses when asked what they do. The models also named SEO suites with AI visibility features, including Semrush, Ahrefs, BrightEdge and Conductor.

When asked what a tool did, GPT-6 Luna listed the domain supplied in the question as its source in almost every answer. That was an echo of the prompt, not evidence for its description.

This test reflects what models know without web search: newer platforms may not have been in their training data, and so may appear unknown. A single run per question can also produce different answers on another run. Whether an AI model knows a platform says nothing about the quality of its product.

How AI models describe each of the 50 tools

The table lists 49 GEO platforms and Microsoft Clarity, sorted by how often GPT-6 Luna, Claude Sonnet 5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite recommended each tool across 24 buyer answers. We asked what each tool does without web search, with one run per question, on 9 October 2026.

For each model, the label records what it answered about the tool: Correct, Correct but unsure, Doesn't know, Partly right, Vague, or Wrong followed by what the model said the tool does. Recommended is the number of the 24 buyer answers that named the tool. Entry price is the cheapest paid plan shown on the vendor’s pricing page on 9 October 2026, as displayed.
